The Roman Steps in the Rhinogs in North WalesThe Roman Steps

More paintings in the Rhinogs. The road leading to Cwm-Buchan turns off the A496 in Llanbedr, and gives direct access to the high mountains in the distance.

The Roman Steps are part of Cwm-Buchan and are not Roman as is widely believed but a series of stone-steps that were constructed in medieval times as a pack animal access over the extremely hostile terrain from Dolgellau to Porthmadog and beyond.

The road to the valley and indeed the Roman Steps thermselves have featured in large film productions, the road that runas by the lake featured in a recent Doctor Who series.
